BACKGROUND:
Guatemala RFA Huehuetenango Finca Huixoc SHB EP Ecotact is
sourced from a family-owned estate located in the municipality of La
Democracia within the department of Huehuetenango, Guatemala.
Finca Huixoc is owned and operated by Jose Alejandro Solis, a third
generation coffee producer, who continues the traditions passed
down from his grandfather, Jose Olivia Chavez, who established the
estate in the 1940’s. The estate’s name, Huixoc, is an indigenous
Mayan word that means "spring water", reflecting the abundance of
spring water sources on the estate, which provide year round
hydropower for the mill operations and pristine water for processing
coffee.
